1 week down.

Finished the first week of work. Kids start on Tuesday. Here is my news, bulleted of course:

- I am slacking on pictures...sorry GaGa. I don't even know where the camera is right now. I will take some this weekend.

- My favorite student of all time transferred to another school. He was one of those people that was making my return to school bearable. Now I'm not so sure. At least I still have Clara's Mommy.

- After our bad interview, we hired this rockin' lady to be my music counterpart 2 days a week. After she walked out, I told my bosses that they should fire me and hire her. I will need to think of a nickname for her. I am leaning towards The Bomb.

- Owen and Henry's new favorite word is "no" and it is cracking me up. They say "no" to everything now. Everything.

- Got news that Tuesday got to ride in the wagon today with her sister and even got to make a trip outside. So great.

- That speech rocked. You know what I'm talkin' about.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday (Flashback!)

Last August:

Tuesday update: Little TuTu has been discharged from the PICU! She is now in the oncology ward and has gotten to visit with her sister, Piper. She ate some applesauce and has been smiling and watching TV. Go, girl! You can read more details at Sharlene's blog and can check for updates at JK's blog.

Things not to say in an interview for a music teaching position

"If a kid is being really bad, I'd have to kick them out."

"I just took my praxis for the fifth time and am waiting for scores."

"I don't have a discipline plan."

"I just don't put up with kids being bad."

"I've only spent 45 minutes in an elementary classroom."

"Um...if you came into my classroom? Uh....we'd be singing, I guess. And moving."

Holy screaming, Batman!

The boys had their first (almost) full day at daycare. I dropped them off at 8:00 and Mr. Magoo's eyes filled with tears as he lifted his arms and cried "Uppa! Uppa!" It was heartbreaking. But I called at lunchtime, and Ms. Chrissy said they were doing great and only cried a minute or two after I left. She also said they were having trouble getting them down for a nap. Uh oh....

So, T and I picked them up and they had not had a nap. They were so tired, with bags under their eyes and lots of eye-rubbing. We made it home and Mr. Man fell asleep on my lap while we waited for Friday Pizza. That was a mistake. He woke up and brought his nightmares with him....screaming, throwing himself around, clinging to me for dear life. Poor baby was so tired he just didn't know what to do with himself.

They went to bed at 6:40. Too early?

Tuesday Update: We just got word that she was taken off the ventilator! Hopefully she makes this transition well and can concentrate on getting rid of her cancer. Her Mom's blog is here.

Eat your heart out, Frank Lloyd

Yes, I AM comparing my children to Mr. Wright. Just look at their genius works of architecture:

Oh, and one of C-Dog for good luck:

TT (11)

Only 6 more days.

I will miss the boys very much.

But this new nap phase?

Where they don't sleep? And just scream?

Yeah. Not gonna miss that one.

Which way to the zoo?

We went to the zoo again today. It rocked. The boys loved it and were great. The animals were active, despite the lack of animal pictures. We saw the lions playing in their pool, orangutans being fed, swimming turtles, cheetahs, zebras, and some fun farm animals. Oh, we saw a donkey peeing, too. That's a lot of pee.

Here are the boys watching some monkeys, and then watching the goats:

After lunch, Mr. O fell asleep, but Mr. H was having nothing to do with naps. He and T walked around and saw some animals while O and I enjoyed the lovely day.

IMG_2619IMG_2617

We looked at a lot of animals, then had a picnic on the hill. Don't you love it when kids "sit" like this?IMG_2689

Mr. Magoo wouldn't give up the goldfish, and since he never napped, he was TI-YERD. He spent an hour doing this:

Tagged.

6 UN-spectacular Things About Me

1. Link the person who tagged you. 2. Mention the rules on your blog. 3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours. 4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them. 5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know that they have been tagged.

I was tagged by CC.

1. I love lazy pajama days. Double points when it's a snow day, too.

2. I am addicted to napping. When work starts at the end of next week, I am screwed.

3. I do not like tomatoes, but I like tomato sauce and ketchup.

4. My Dad's family is mormon, my Mom's family is Southern Baptist, and Todd's family is Jewish. I am something completely different.

5. I am deathly afraid of throat cultures and puking.

6. I am trying to teach my children to have perfect pitch. It will serve them well in their career as Broadway stars.

If you want to do it, consider yourself tagged.

You give me pink eye NOW?

Tuesday update on JK's blog.

So, the past few days, I thought I had strep throat. Bad pain and white spots. I made an appointment for this morning, but woke up to a painless throat. So, I cancelled. I guess it's not strep. It hurts a bit now, but is much better than it has been. Sheesh.

Anyway, I woke up with a better throat but with PINK EYE!!! Thanks, boys!!!

And, to clarify - I'm not back to work yet. We are doing daycare trial runs this week. 1 and a half hours yesterday, 2 hours tomorrow, should be fun! If I wake up tomorrow with a sore throat, hopefully I can use my 2 hours to get a throat culture.

We have a Sesame Street DVD called "Sing, Hoot, and Howl" that has a bunch of animal songs on it. Now, every time we get in the car, the boys ask for it by singing their favorite song, "Bah bah Bahmba!" Cracks me up.

The Past 2 Days

"Stop crying, Henry!"

I said for the millionth time.

He stopped for a sec,

Looked at me with those cute eyes,

And started crying again.

"High born people make poor servants."

So, I just finished reading "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet. Different from anything I have ever read. I am not usually into historical fiction, but this one read like a good novel. I enjoyed the story very much, found his writing a little wordy (OK, a lot wordy....do we really need to know every single detail of everything? Come on, skipping some things is OK....and stop repeating things, really), and some of the scenes a little graphic. But I can totally see this being made into a movie trilogy. I had to run out and buy a new book today because I keep having dreams of myself in medieval times. Man, that life would suck, unless you were a noble. And even that ain't so great, depending on who wants to kill you at the time. At any rate, I recommend the book. A good, long, summer read. Thanks, Dad!

whaddup, i ran a 10k.

Well, I didn't, but T did. He did a great job, getting up and not even waking me (I even jolted up in a panic to tell him he would be late and he was already gone), and finishing the race before the 76 year old! Woo hoo! No really, we were all very proud of him, even though my dragging the Mr.'s out of the house that early made them grumpier than Dick Cheney.

Oh, and an exchange I forgot to tell you about from the park that cracked me up. A family was walking by us, made up of a super-skinny mom, a dad, and like 4 kids. They were discussing their upcoming hike and dad was explaining the points each child would get for spotting certain things.

"5 points for a snake, 10 points for a deer, 3 points for a woodpecker, etc."

After they passed, T said, "20 points for an anorexic!"

Heh heh. I'm so lucky he doesn't like the anorexic look. I'd be out on my ass.

Great Falls Park

Great Falls is a National Park located outside of DC. T and I used to hike their with the dogs often before the boys came along. Since we've had the boys, we have only been once or twice. We had a great morning there on Saturday. We enjoyed the view and saw a few kayakers shoot the rapids, we had a picnic, and we even went on a short run through the woods. The boys really enjoyed the view and especially enjoyed all the dogs that we saw in the park.
